QGIS Cloud is your personal spatial data infrastructure (SDI) in the cloud. Publish QGIS projects as maps and data. Share spatial data with others. All of this works very easily, without the need for servers, infrastructure, or expert knowledge. If you know QGIS Desktop, you'll feel right at home with QGIS Cloud. Simply install the QGIS Cloud plugin from the official QGIS plugin repository and you are ready to go.

How QGIS Cloud Works

Follow along with our easy-to-understand steps and see firsthand the seamless operation of QGIS Cloud.

Setup QGIS
  • Install QGIS, the free desktop GISConfigure your proxy server, if you have one (Settings -> Options -> Network)
  • Open Plugin Dialog (Plugins -> Fetch Python Plugins)
  • Install QGIS Cloud plugin (Plugins -> Filter 'QGIS Cloud' -> Install plugin)
  • Install the OpenLayers plugin (Plugins -> Filter 'OpenLayers' -> Install plugin) for background maps.
Sign Up
  • Sign up for a QGIS Cloud account if not already done
  • Log in from the QGIS Cloud plugin
Create a QGIS project and publish it
  • Create a map with your own data
  • Tip: read the QGIS documentation and follow a tutorial, if you are not familiar with QGIS
  • Press 'Publish Map' to upload you map
  • Answer 'yes' when asked for saving the project
Upload local data
  • If your project includes local data, you will be asked to upload your data first
  • Note: if you are behind a firewall blocking the DB connection, please contact the QGIS Cloud support
Update map
  • After any changes, or when your first data upload has finished, press 'Publish Map' to upload your updated map
View your map in a browser
  • Open a web browser clicking on the 'Webmap' link on the plugin tab.

Create maps

Create complex maps with QGIS Desktop using all the styling options it offers. Just as you have always done with QGIS Desktop. Then simply publish data and maps with the QGIS Cloud plugin. All this in just a few minutes – it's as simple as it gets.

Manage data

QGIS Cloud gives you powerful PostgreSQL 12 databases, extended with PostGIS 3. Create new databases directly from the QGIS Cloud plugin with just a click. Manage your databases with any compatible management tool, such as DBeaver, the QGIS Browser or the QGIS DB-Manager. Make the most of PostgreSQL/PostGIS in your geospatial workflows.

Security

The data is stored in the cloud in PostgreSQL databases. Access to the databases is protected by a password, and secured via SSH. If you want to share your services only with a restricted group of people, then you can restrict access to the resources. For this, you'll need QGIS Cloud Pro. With QGIS Cloud Free, all QGIS Cloud services are openly accessible.

Print maps

Provide high-quality maps via WMS for printing. Create as many print layouts as you need with QGIS Desktop, with all the options it provides to you. Create maps for various paper formats, with print resolutions of up to 1200 dpi.

Share information and data

Share your maps and data through OGC (Open Geospatial Consortium) compliant web services. Display your maps via WMS, or download the data via WFS. With WFS-T, you can edit your data directly through the web service. Or use the QGIS Cloud WebGIS and Mobile Client integrated into QGIS Cloud. If your information and data should not be publicly accessible, QGIS Cloud Pro allows you to restrict access by protecting the resources with a password.
